ஏகநாதர் மஹாராஷ்டிரத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். பைத்தான் என்னும் ஊரில் பிறந்தார். சிறு வயதிலேயே பக்தியுடன் இருந்தார். இல்வாழ்வில் ஈடுபட்ட இவர் தீண்டத்தகாதோரிடம் அன்புடையவராக இருந்தார். கண்ணனின் தீவிர பக்தராக இருந்தார். பதினாராம் நூற்றாண்டில் துக்காராம் என்பவரின் விவசாய குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தார். ஞானேஸ்வரி என்ற நூல் (கி.பி. 1590) கிடைக்கச் செய்தார். பல மராத்தி பாடல்களை இவர் கண்டுபிடித்தார். நாட்டில் பஞ்சம் ஏற்பட்டபொழுது அதில் இருந்து தப்பி பிழைத்தார். இவர் தீண்டாமைக்கு எதிராக செயல்பட்டார். இதனால் பிராமணர்களால் வெறுக்கப்பட்டார். இறுதியில் ஆற்றில் மூழ்கி இறந்தார்.[1][2][3]
