Hi Selva, Thanks for the welcome message. Sorry for English. Even though I can read and write Tamil (to some extent I can speak also) I am not fluent in that language.

Have you people made arrangement to reach press regarding this, so that more people will be attracted to wiki?

As an interwiki user I was looking for the Embassy link on the left panel. But I couldn't find that. I suggest inserting that link since that will be very helpful for the other language users to interact with tamil wikipedians. You can see an example in Malayalam wikipedia. Inbulit transliteration tool[தொகு]

I am just wondering why Tamil wikipedia is not integrating an inbuilt transliteration tool for typing Tamil in Tamil wiki. If all of you are using inscript keyboard then this suggestion won't make much sense. But a normal user always use tanglish? (we call it manglish :)) for mail communication. So this enhancement will help newcomers. Inbulit transliteration tool will help more people to write in wiki without depending on specific tool or OS.

If you require any developer assistance please let me know. You can see an example of this inbult transliteration tool in Malayalam wiki if you try to edit any wiki page. If tamil wikipedians won't take my suggestions as offending, I would like to give some more suggestions which may help you to improve the quality of wiki.

Currently there is the Tamil 99 standard for typing. It is the native way of typing, and will provide speed if learned properly. It was proposed after considerable research about Tamil letter freqneucy etc.

We did not have much discussion about inbuilt transliteration, but some of us of the opinion that transliteration method can promote a substandard method of Tamil typing, and Tamil in general.

But, we will have to discuss this futher, for sure. Thanks for your input.

Dear Tamil Wikipedians,

Greetings.

I would like to know how much importance Tamil Wikipedians are giving to the Category and the proper categorization of articles.

Recently we have done a study about this in Malayalam Wikipedia, and found that every thing is in a mess. So, we are are in the process of defining the structure of the Category Tree and edit the category of each article. Our first aim is to make the category tree perfect. So any type of help/input./suggestions will help us.

More over, I would like to know the top level category of the Tamil Wikipedia. Is it Wikipedia, or is it Content? I couldn't get much information from your Category Tree since I am not sure what word you have used for different categories. As the Wikipedia grows category will become very important.

Hi, I'm sorry no one answered your question. I was not able to participate for a long time. Yes, Category indeed is very important and it is far from satisfactory in TaWiki in my view. I think users Sundar, or Gopi or Mayuranathan or Kanags would be able to answer your questions better. Our nine main divisions, as can be seen on our front page, are: Tamil, Culture, History, Science, Mathematics, Geography, Society, Technology, People which are denoted as follows: தமிழ் | பண்பாடு | வரலாறு | அறிவியல் | கணிதம் | புவியியல் | சமூகம் | தொழில்நுட்பம் | நபர்கள். It is difficult to have a perfect category tree, because many topics fall in ore than one category. But placing articles in some hierarchical category should be a very important goal.

The word Bhuvanesvari means Goddess of Earth and The second Word Sekar refers to Lord Siva -usually because he has a crescent moon in his head. The Wikimedia Foundation is preparing to launch a survey that it hopes will be helpful in discussing the future of how projects are funded on Wikipedia and sister sites. Translations are done using the "translation tool". If you go to this special page, all you have to do is select your language from the pull-down menu, alphabetical by language code, and click "fetch". It will bring up a table. You can easily see what has been translated and what has not, because untranslated sections are green. Click on the blue text in the left column next to content that has not been translated to open up an editing box. Above the box, the English version is shown, and you can simply enter in your language translation beneath it.

Two requests[தொகு]

At commons:, localized Main Page (Tamil one: முதற்_பக்கம்) shows a redirect notice when user is not logged in [4]. You may override that using some minor edit (plese see this change in Malayalam Main Page). Although I did few tweaks to முதற்_பக்கம், I am not sure about this one, because this basically needs community descision.
Please add a link like this 'Message the Embassy' here, because it helps adding new message.

WikiSangamotsavam-2013[தொகு]

WikiSangamotsavam 2013, the annual gathering of users and well wishers of Malayalam Wikimedia projects, will take place from 21-23 December, 2013 in Alappuzha, Kerala. Please click here to go to the official page to see more details.

WikiSangamotsavam - 2013 is our first attempt to invite and host selected members from other Indian Wikipedia communities. We are planning to invite our friends and well-wishers from 14 different language wiki communities in India to this most auspicious occasion hosted by Malayalam wiki community! We are also planning to arrange few scholarships for non-Malayalam Wikimedians who are interested in participating in this event. With all these, we expect this year’s conference shall become the largest outreach program any Indian wiki community have ever attempted.

As a part of WikiSangamotsavam-2013, we are organizing edit-a-thons, WikiVidyarthiSangamam (a conference of students interested in Wikimedia projects), WikiYuvaSangamam (a meetup of youth interested in Wikimedia projects), a computer training session for the differently-abled, a digitization drive to digitize the information regarding wetlands in Kerala and WikiJalaYathra, a wiki voyage through Vembanadu backwaters.
