சாலமன் தீவுகள் தொடர் சமர் இரண்டாம் உலகப் போரின் பசிபிக் போரின் போது இடம்பெற்ற முக்கிய தொடர் சமராகும். 1942 ஆம் ஆண்டின் முதல் ஆறு மாதங்களில் யப்பானிய பேரரசு பிரித்தானிய சாலமன் தீவுகளினதும் போகன் வில்லே திவுகளதும் சில இடங்களில் தரையிரங்கி அவ்விடங்களை ஆக்கிரமித்ததுடன் சாலமன் தீவுகள் தொடர் சமர் தொடங்கியது.பப்புவா நியூகினி மீதான யப்பானிய தாக்குதல்களுக்கு பின்பலமாக அமையுமாறு தாங்கள் ஆக்கிரமித்தப் பகுதிகளில் யப்பானியர்கள் வான்,கடற்படைத் தளங்களை அமைக்கத் தொடங்கினர். பப்புவா நியுகினியாவின் புதிய பிரி்த்தானியத் தீவில் அமைந்திருந்த யப்பனியரது முக்கியத் தளமான ரபாவுல் தளத்துக்கு பாதுகாப்பு அரணாகவும், ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவுக்கும் அவுசுதிரேலியா, நியூசிலாந்துக்கு மிடையான நேசநாட்டு வழங்கள் பாதைகளை வழிமறிப்புச் செய்யும் தளமாகவும் செயற்படும் படைத்துறை நோக்கமும் இத்தளங்களில் அமைப்பில் காணப்பட்டது.

தென் பசிபிக் மாக்கடலில் தங்களது வழங்கள், தொலைத் தொடர்பு பாதையை தக்கவைத்துக் கொள்ளவும் நியூகினியில் யப்பானியர்களுக்கு எதிரான எதிர்த்தாக்குதல்களுக்கு ஆதரவை வழங்கவும், யப்பனியரது முக்கியத் தளமான ரபாவுல் தளத்தை தனிமைப் படுத்தும் வகையிலும் நேச நாட்டுப் படைகள் சாலமன் தீவுகளில் காணப்பட்ட யப்பானிய நிலைகள் மீது தாக்குதல் தொடுத்தன. நேச நாட்டுப்படைகள் 1942 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் குவாடல் கால்வாய்ப் பகுதியில் தரையிரங்கினர். இத்தரையிரக்கங்கள் காரணமாக நேசநாட்டுப் படைகளுக்கும் யப்பானிய படைகளுக்கும் இடையில் தொடக்கத்தில் குவாடல் தொடர் சமர் மூண்டது இதன் பின்னர் மேலும் சில சண்டைகளும் நடைபெற்றன. இச்சண்டைகள் நடு,வடக்கு சாலமன் தீவுகளிலும் நியூ யோர்ஜியாவிலும் நடைபெற்றன.

இச்சமரின் போது நேசநாட்டுப் படைகள் பகல் வேளையில் முழுமையான வானாதிக்கத்தைக் கொண்டிருந்தன. இதன் காரணாம யப்பானியர் தங்களது வழங்கள்களை இரவு வேளியில் மேற்கொண்டனர், இது எலி போக்குவரத்து(Rat Transportation) என யப்பானியர்களாலும் தோக்யோ கடுகதி (Tokyo Express) என நேச நாட்டுப் படைகளாலும் அழைக்கப்பட்டது. யப்பானியர்களது வழங்கள் பாதையை தடுக்கும் நோக்கில் பல கொடுரமான சண்டைகள் நடைபெற்றன. இதன் போது இருதரப்பும் பல கப்பல்களை இழந்தன.

இச்சண்டையில் நேச நாடுகளின் வெற்றி காரணமாக அவுஸ்திரேலியா நியூசிலாந்து என்பன ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவுடன் தொடர்ந்து தொடர்பில் இருக்கக் கூடியதாக இருந்ததோடு நேச நாடுகளின் இயளுமையை அதிகரித்தது. இதன் போது கைப்பற்றப் பட்டப் பகுதிகள் 1943 ஜூன் 30 அன்று தொடங்கப் பட்ட நியூ கினியா தொடர்ச் சமருக்கு முக்கிய தொடக்க மையமாக செயற்பட்டது. நியூ கினி தொடச் சமரின் போது யப்பானியரது முக்கியத் தளமான ரபாவுல் தளம் தாக்கியழிக்கப்பட்டதோடு தென் பசிபிக் மாக்கடலில் யப்பானின் வான், கடல் ஆதிக்கம் வீழ்ச்சியைக் கண்டது. இது பின்னர் பிலிபைன்சைக் கைப்பற்ற நடைபெற்ற பிலிபைன்ஸ் தொடர் சமருக்கும் தொடக்கமாக அமைந்தது.
