தேமன் கால்கட் (Damon Galgut, பிறப்பு: 12 நவம்பர் 1963) தென்னாப்பிரிக்கப் புதின எழுத்தாளரும், நாடகாசிரியரும் ஆவார். இவரது "வாக்குறுதி" (The Promise) என்ற புதினத்திற்காக இவருக்கு 2021-ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கான புக்கர் பரிசு கிடைத்தது. முன்னதாக 2003, 2010 ஆம் ஆண்டுகளில் இவரது நூல்கள் மான் புக்கர் பரிசுக்குப் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டன.[1]

வாழ்க்கைக் குறிப்பு[தொகு]

தென்னாப்பிரிக்காவில் பிரிட்டோரியாவில் பிறந்தவர் கால்கட்.[1][2] இவரது தந்தை யூதக் குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தவர்.[3][4] ஆறாவது அகவையில், இவருக்கு நிணநீர்க்குழியப் புற்றுநோய் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது.[5]

கால்கட் பிரிட்டோரியா ஆண்கள் உயர்தரப் பள்ளியில் கல்வி கற்று 1981 இல் வெளியேறினார்.[6] பின்னர் கேப் டவுன் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் சேர்ந்து நாடகக் கலையில் பட்டம் பெற்றார்.[2]

இலக்கியப் பணி[தொகு]

கால்கட் தனது 17-வது அகவையில் A Sinless Season (பாவமில்லாத பருவம், 1982) என்ற புதினத்தை எழுதினார்.[7] பின்னர் 1988-இல் சிறுகதைத் தொகுதி ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டார். இத்தொகுதியில் ஒரு தாய் தன் மகனின் நோயுடன் போராடுவதை விவரிக்கும் ஒரு குறும் புதினம் ஒன்றும் இடம்பெற்றிருந்தது.[8][9] இவரது குவாரி (1995) என்ற புதினம் திரைப்படமாக எடுக்கப்பட்டு 1988 இலும், பின்னர் 2020 இலும் வெளிவந்தது.[10][11]

தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்க்கை[தொகு]

கால்கட் ஓர் அகனன் ஆவார். இது அவரது எழுத்தில் ஆண் சார்ந்த உறவுகளில் அதிக கவனம் செலுத்த வழிவகுத்தது என்றும்,[12] ரூவால் டால் எழுதிய சிறுகதை "பன்றி" தனது எழுத்தில் மிகப்பெரிய தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியதாகவும் கால்கட் கூறுகிறார்.[13]

1990-களில் இருந்து கேப் டவுன் நகரில் வசித்து வருகிறார்.[14] இவர் தனது The Good Doctor (நல்ல மருத்துவர்) என்ற புதினத்தி கோவாவில் உள்ள ஒரு உணவு விடுதியில் இருந்து எழுதினார். இவர் யோகக் கலையில் மிகவும் ஈடுபாடுள்ளவர்.[15]
