கேத்தி எம். கேனன் ( Kathy M. Gannon ) ஒரு கனடிய பத்திரிகையாளரும், ஆப்கானித்தான் மற்றும் பாக்கித்தானுக்கான அசோசியேட்டட் பிரெசின் செய்தி இயக்குனரும் ஆவார்.[1] இவர் ஆப்கானித்தானில் இருந்து அறிக்கை செய்யும் போது தாக்கப்பட்டு காயமடைந்தார்.[2][3][4] இவரது ஜெர்மன் சக ஊழியர் அஞ்சா நீட்ரிங்காஸ் படுகாயமடைந்து இறந்து போனார். கேனன் தனது காயங்களிலிருந்து மீண்டார். இப்போது ஆர்வர்டு கெனடி பள்ளியில் ஊடக மையத்தின் மூத்த சகாவாக உள்ளார்.
சுயசரிதை[தொகு]
கேனன் ஒன்றாரியோவிலுள்ள திம்மின்சில் பிறந்தார். 1988 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் ஆப்கானித்தான் மற்றும் பாக்கித்தான் பற்றி அறிக்கை செய்தார்.[1] 2002 ஆம் ஆண்டில், சர்வதேச பெண்கள் ஊடக அறக்கட்டளை இவருக்கு தைரியமான பத்திரிகையாளருக்கன விருதை வழங்கியது.[5] 2003 ஆம் ஆண்டில், வெளிநாட்டு உறவுகளுக்கான அமைப்பிலிருந்து இவருக்கு ஒரு வருட எட்வர்ட் ஆர். முரோ பிரஸ் உதவித் தொகை வழங்கப்பட்டது.[6]
கேனன் தன் மீதான தாக்குதலுக்கு முன்னர் ஆப்கானித்தானில் இருந்து 18 ஆண்டுகள் அறிக்கை செய்தார். மேலும் அசோசியேட்டட் பிரஸ்ஸின் பிராந்திய தலைவராகவும் இருந்தார்.[2]
தாக்குதல்[தொகு]
ஆப்கானிய தேசிய இராணுவம் மற்றும் காவல்துறையின் கூறுபாடுகளால் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட தேசியத் தேர்தல்களைப் பற்றி அறிக்கையிடும் செய்தியாளர்களின் தொடரணியில் கேனனும் நீட்ரிங்ஹாஸும் இருந்தனர்.[2] வாகனங்கள் நிறுத்தப்பட்டதும், காவலர்களில் ஒருவரான நகிபுல்லா என்பவர், தனது துப்பாக்கியை எடுத்து, "அல்லாஹு அக்பர்" என்று கூறிக்கொண்டே, இவர்களின் வாகனத்தை மிக அருகில் இருந்து சுட்டார்.[7] தாக்குதலில் இவர் பலத்த காயமடைந்தார். பின் அமர்ந்து சக ஊழியர்களிடம் சரண் அடைந்தார்.

According to the AP report, Niedringhaus, 48, was in a car with AP reporter Kathy Gannon, an AP Television News freelancer and a driver. They had just arrived at a heavily guarded district compound and were waiting for the convoy to move forward when a unit commander by the name of Naqibullah "walked up to the car, yelled 'Allahu Akbar' — God is Great — and opened fire on them in the back seat with his ஏகே-47."
