பிலிப்பினோ அல்லது தகலாக் என்பது தகலாகு மொழிக்குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு மொழியாகும். தகலாகு மொழியின் தரப்பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட மொழி இதுவாகும்.[3] அத்துடன் பிலிப்பைன்சு நாட்டின் தேசிய மொழியும் இப்பிலிப்பினோவே ஆகும்.[4] (ஆங்கில மொழியுடன் உத்தியோகபூர்வ அந்தஸ்தை பகிர்ந்துகொண்டுள்ளது) [5] 2007 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 28 மில்லியன் மக்கள் தகலாகு மொழியினை முதலாம் மொழியாகக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.[6] இவ்வெண்ணிக்கை பிலிப்பைன்சின் சனத்தொகையில் மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்காகும். அத்துடன் 45 மில்லியன் மக்கள் இப்பிலிப்பினோ மொழியை இரண்டாம் மொழியாகக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.[1] 185 பில்லிப்பீனிய மொழிகளில் இதுவும் ஒரு மொழியாக எத்னொலொக் (Ethnologue) இனால் அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டது.[7] பிலிப்பினோ மொழி ஆணையத்தினால் (KWF) இப்பிலிப்பினோவானது மணிலா பெருநகரத்தினதும் (தேசிய தலைநகரப் பகுதி) ஏனைய தீவுக்கூட்டங்களினதும் பேசப்படும், எழுதப்படும் சொந்தத் தாய்நாட்டு மொழியாக வரையறுக்கப்பட்டது.[8] இப்பிலிப்பினோ மொழி ஒரு புசிசென்டரிக் மொழி ஆகும்.[9] பெரும்பாலும் பிலிப்பினோ என்பது தகலாகு மொழியின் மாற்றுப் பெயராகக் கருதப்படுகின்றது.[10][11] அல்லது தகலாகு மொழியின் மணிலா பெருநகரத்திற்கான கிளை மொழியாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றது.[12][13][14]
