ஐரிஸ் (Iris) என்பது பூக்குந்தாவரமும் காட்சிப்பூக்களைக் கொண்ட 260-300 வகையான தாவரங்களைக் கொண்ட இனமாகும்.[1][2] இதனுடைய பெயர் கிரேக்கத்தில் வானவில்லுக்கு வழங்கப்படும் பெயரிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்டதாகும். இப் பெயர் இவ்வினங்களிலுள்ள பரந்த நிறங்களையுடைய மலர்களுக்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.[3]
