There are two myths being propagated by the WMF visitors aided by misdirection/propaganda from "We want only English" Indians.

1) There is no audience for Indic language knowledge in India. People who know indic languages are illiterate/poor/cant read so offer them mobile/pictures/whatever. 2) People who have Indic mother tongues and who cant speak them are a significant minority and should be targeted somehow

Talking to these myth makers is proving to be a drag. I was scratching my head how to actually counter - "all Indic languages are doomed.. lets help them by changing them" position taken by WMF people and decided put together some statistics for Tamil Nadu. More statistics should be compiled and put up as a ready reckoner somewhere in wiki projects. Please suggest some other stuff like this, i will make a page somewhere.

(This is only 70% of the Tamil speaking population - the rest lives outside TN)
