காந்தச் சரிவு (Magnetic dip)எனப்படுவது, திசைகாட்டியொன்றை, நிலைக்குத்தாக வைத்திருக்கும் நிலையில், திசைகாட்டியின் ஊசியானது, கிடையோடு ஏற்படுத்துகின்ற கோணம் ஆகும். பூமியின் வெவ்வேறு பகுதிகளில் இந்தக் கோணத்தின் பெறுமானம் வித்தியாசப்படுகின்றது. புவியின் காந்தப்புலமானது, கீழ்ப்புறமாக பூமியை நோக்கி, அமைந்திருக்கின்றது என்பதை இந்தக் கோணத்தின் பெறுமானம் நேர் எண்ணாக வருகின்ற நிலை குறிக்கின்றது.
இந்தக் கோணத்தின் பெறுமானம், சரிவு வட்டம் (dip circle) எனப்படும் கருவியால் பொதுவாக அளக்கப்படும்.
ஜோர்ஜ் கார்ட்மென் என்ற பொறியியலாளரால் 1544 ஆம் ஆண்டு சரிவுக்கோணம் முதன் முதலாகக் கண்டறியப்பட்டது.[1] சரிவு வட்டத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி சரிவுக் கோணத்தை அளவிடும் முறையை இங்கிலாந்தைச் சேர்ந்த ரொபேர்ட் நோர்மன் என்பவர் 1581 இல் விபரித்தார்.[2]
