பனாஜிகா (Banajiga) எனப்படுவோர் கருநாடக மாநிலத்தில் வாழ்ந்து வரும் ஒரு வணிக சமூகமாகும்.[1] இவர்களுள் பெரும்பாலானோரின் தாய்மொழி கன்னடம் மொழியாகும். தெலுங்கு பேசும் பனாஜிகா சமூகத்தினர் பெங்களூரில் கணிசமாக வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றனர்.
சொற்பிறப்பு[தொகு]
பனாஜிகா என்றால் வணிகன் என்று பொருளாகும். பனாஜிகா என்பது இடைக்கால பயன்பாட்டில் இருந்த சொற்களாலான பலஞ்சா, பனாஞ்சா, பளஞ்சா, பனஞ்சு, பளஞ்சியர் போன்ற சொற்களின் திரிபாகும். இவை அனைத்தும் வடமொழி சொல்லான வனிஜ் என்பதிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்டவையாகும்.[2]
பலிஜா என்ற சொல்லின் கன்னட வார்த்தை பனாஜிகா என்பதாகும்.[3]
பூர்வீகம்[தொகு]
அய்யபொழில் என்ற வணிகக்குழுவினர் கி.பி. ஒன்பதாம் நூற்றாண்டு முதல் தென்னிந்தியாவின் பல பகுதிகளில் வணிகம் செய்தனர்.[4] கி.பி. பதிமூன்றாம் நூற்றாண்டிலிருந்து, ஆந்திர நாட்டில் வீர பலஞ்சா என்ற வணிகக்குழுவினரை பற்றி குறிப்பிடும் கல்வெட்டுகள் தோன்றத் தொடங்கின. வீர பலஞ்சா வணிகர்களின் தலைமையிடமாக அய்யபொழில் திகழ்ந்தது.[5] அய்யபொழில் என்பது தற்கால கருநாடக மாநில பீசப்பூர் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள ஐஹோல் நகரமாகும்.[6] வீர பலஞ்சா வணிகர்கள் தங்களை அய்யபொழில் நகரத்தின் அதிபதி என்று அழைத்துக்கொள்கின்றனர். இந்த வணிகர்கள் தங்களை வீர பலஞ்சா தர்மத்தின் பாதுகாவலர்களாகக் காட்டிக் கொண்டனர்.[7] இவ்வணிகர்கள் கன்னடத்தில் வீர பனாஜிகா என்றும் தெலுங்கில் வீர பலிஜா என்றும் தமிழில் வீர வளஞ்சியர் என்றும் அழைக்கப்பட்டனர். இதன் பொருள் தீரமிக்க வணிகர்கள் என்பதாகும்.[8][9]
லிங்காயதம்[தொகு]
இவர்களில் பெரும்பாலோனோர் லிங்காயத்து மதத்தை பின்பற்றுகின்றனர். இவர்கள் கவரேஸ்வரர் வழிபடுவதன் காரணமாக கவரே பனாஜிக என்றும் லிங்காயத்து மதத்தை பின்பற்றுவதால் சிவாச்சாரி கவறை என்றும் அறியப்படுகின்றனர்.
