இடிகா (Idiga) எனப்படுவோர் மாநிலங்களான கர்நாடகம், தமிழ்நாடு, ஆந்திரப் பிரதேசம் மற்றும் தெலுங்கானா பகுதிகளில் வாழுகின்ற ஒரு கன்னட, தெலுங்கு சாதியினர் ஆவார்.[1] இச்சமூகத்தினர் தங்களை செட்டிபலிஜா என்றும் அழைத்துக் கொள்கின்றனர் . தமிழ்நாடு அரசு இடவொதுக்கீட்டு பட்டியலில், இவர்கள் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்ட பிரிவில் உள்ளனர்.[2]
சொற்பிறப்பு[தொகு]
இடிகா என்பது தெலுங்கு சொல் 'இட்சு யில் இருந்து பெறப்பட்டது.[3]இடிகா இனத்தவர்கள் பலிஜாவின் கிளை பிரிவாகவும் இருக்கலாம்.[4] இவர்கள் தங்களை வியாசரின் வழித்தோன்றல்கள் என்கின்றனர்.[5]
தொழில்[தொகு]
இவர்களின் ஆதித் தொழிலே பனை மரம் ஏறுவதும், கள் இறக்குவதும் ஆகும்.[6] தற்போது சிலர் வேளாண்மைத் தொழில் செய்து வருகின்றனர்
வாழும் பகுதிகள்[தொகு]
இவர்கள் தமிழகத்தில், குறிப்பாக வடதமிழகத்தில் சென்னை, செங்கல்பட்டு, சேலம் மற்றும் வட ஆற்காடு ஆகிய பகுதிகளில், அதிக அளவில் வசிக்கின்றனர்.[7]

Etymologically Idiga is derived from Telugu word ' Idchu ' ( meaning ' to draw " ) . Idigas claim to be the descendents of Vyasa , the compiler of Maha . bharatha . Dandu Idiga and Balija Idiga are the two main sub - divisions in the caste .

it is stated that the Idigas are the descendants of Balijas from Rajahumundry of Godavari district of A . P . and their occupation separated them into a district caste .

BALIJA / SETTI BALIJA The ' Setti Balija ' or ' Chetti Balija ' or ' Setti Kula Balija ' are also known as Ediga , Settiga , Settikula and Indras . They claim their descent from Vyasa , the compiler of the Mahabharata . . They were originally toddy - tappers by profession , though a few took to cultivation .
