சம்போ இரசியாவின் சண்டைக் கலையும் சண்டை விளையாட்டும் ஆகும்.[1][2] சம்போ என்பதன் அர்த்தம் ஆயுதமின்றி தற்பாதுகாப்பு என்பதாகும். 1920 களில் சோவியத் செஞ்சேனையினால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட இது தற்போது மேம்பட்டுள்ளது. பல சண்டைக் கலைகளின் தொகுப்பான இது யுடோ போன்ற சண்டைக் கலைகளை தன் ஆரம்பமாகக் கொண்டது. விக்டோர் ஸ்பிரிடோனோவ் மற்றும் வசிலி ஒஸ்சேப்கோவ் என்பவர்களால் சம்போ அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. ஆயினும் வசிலி ஒஸ்சேப்கோவின் மாணவரான அன்டோலி கார்லம்பியேவ் சம்போவின் நிறுவனராக அறியப்படுகிறார். 1938 இல் தேசிய விளையாட்டாக சோவியத் ஒன்றிய விளையாட்டு சபையால் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டது.
