சுப்பிரமணியன் சந்திரசேகர் (Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar) (அக்டோபர் 19, 1910 - ஆகஸ்ட் 21, 1995) வானியல்-இயற்பியலாளர் ஆவார். இவர் பிரித்தானிய இந்தியாவில் லாகூரில் பிறந்தவர். ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்கா, சிக்காகோவில் தனது வாழ்நாளின் பெரும் பகுதியைக் கழித்தவர்[1][2] விண்மீன்கள் பற்றிய இவரது ஆய்விற்காக இவருக்கும் வில்லியம் ஃபௌலருக்கும் 1983 இல் இயற்பியலுக்கான நோபல் பரிசு வழங்கப்பட்டது.

1937 இலிருந்து 1995 இல் இறக்கும் வரை சிக்காகோ பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் பணியாற்றினார். இவர் 1953இலிருந்து ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்கக் குடிமகனாவார்.

வாழ்க்கைக் குறிப்பு

C. சுப்பிரமணியன் ஐயருக்கும் சீதாலட்சுமி அம்மையாருக்கும் பிறந்தவர் சந்திரசேகர். இவருடன் கூடப் பிறந்தவர்கள் ஆறு சகோதரிகளும் (ராஜலட்சுமி, பாலபார்வதி, சாரதா, வித்யா, சாவித்திரி, மற்றும் சுந்தரி) மூன்று சகோதரர்களும் (விசுவநாதன், பாலகிருஷ்ணன், மற்றும் ராமநாதன்) [3]. லாகூரில் ஐந்து வருடங்களும், லக்னோவில் இரண்டு வருடங்களும் வாழ்ந்தபின், அவரது குடும்பம் சென்னை வந்தடைந்தது. அவரது ஆரம்பப் படிப்பு வீட்டில் தொடங்கியது; பதினோராம் வயதில் அவர் திருவல்லிக்கேணியிலுள்ள இந்து உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் சேர்ந்தார் [4].

மாநிலக்கல்லூரியில் மேல்நிலைப் படிப்பு முடிந்ததும், 1927-ல் இளங்கலை (B.A. Honours) இயற்பியல் படிப்பை அதே கல்லூரியில் தொடர்ந்தார். இப்படிப்பின் போதுதான் 1928 இல் அவரது சித்தப்பா சர். சி. வி. இராமனுக்கு நோபல் பரிசு கிடைத்தது [5].

1928 இல், ஆர்னோல்ட் சம்மர்ஃபெல்ட் (Arnold Sommerfeld) இந்தியா வந்திருந்த போது, சென்னையில் மாநிலக் கல்லூரியில் சொற்பொழிவு ஆற்றினார். ஏற்கனவே அவருடைய புத்தகத்தைப் படித்திருந்த சந்திரசேகர், அவரைச் சந்தித்து இயற்பியலில் நிகழ்ந்திருந்த புதிய ஆராய்ச்சிகளைப் பற்றி அறிந்ததுடன், அவை பற்றிய புத்தகங்களைப் படிப்பதில் ஆழ்ந்த கவனமும் செலுத்தினார். அதன் விளைவாக அதற்கடுத்த வருடத்திலேயே தனது முதல் ஆராய்ச்சிக் கட்டுரையையும் பதிப்பித்தார்.[6] அவ்வருடம் சென்னையில் நடந்த இந்திய அறிவியல் மாநாட்டில் இக்கட்டுரையை ஒத்த சொற்பொழிவு மூத்த அறிவியலாளர்களின் மெச்சுதலோடு நடந்தேறியதுடன், அவரது ஆராய்ச்சிப் பயணமும் வெற்றிகரமாகத் தொடங்கியது. மேலும், அதற்கடுத்த வருடம் -- 19ஆவது வயதில், இன்னும் இளங்கலை மாணவராக இருக்கையிலேயே -- மேலும் இரு கட்டுரைகளும்[7] பதிப்பாயின [8].

1930 ஆம் ஆண்டு, இந்திய அரசாங்கத்தின் பரிசும் பண உதவியும் பெற்று, சந்திரசேகர் மேல்படிப்புக்காக கேம்ப்ரிட்ஜ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்குப் பயணித்தார்.[9]
