The North Chennai Thermal Power Station is a மின் நிலையம் situated about 25 கிலோமீட்டர்கள் (16 mi) from சென்னை city.[1] It is one of the major power plants of தமிழ்நாடு and has a total installed capacity of 1,830 MW (2,450,000 hp).[2][3][4]
History
The North Chennai Thermal Power Station was commissioned in 1994 in the திருவள்ளூர் district. It was built there due to its proximity to the எண்ணூர் துறைமுகம், which also supplies எண்ணூர் அனல்மின் நிலையம். It has won various awards for productivity and reduction in auxiliary consumption.[2][5] The coal necessary for the power station arrives from the எண்ணூர் துறைமுகம்.[6] Recently a stator was brought to the station via the sea.[7] In recent years due to shortage of coal in the state, coal is being imported to function the power plant.[8]
