மெலனோபாட்ராசசு (Melanobatrachus) என்பது மைக்ரோஹைலிடே குடும்பத்தில் உள்ள கூர்வாய்த் தவளைச் சிற்றினமாகும். மெலனோபாட்ராசினே என்ற துணைக் குடும்பத்தில் எஞ்சியிருக்கும் ஒரே பேரினம் இதுவாகும். இதில் மெலனோபாட்ராசசு இண்டிகசு என்ற ஒற்றை சிற்றினம் மட்டும் உள்ளது.[2]இது இந்தியக் கருப்பு மைக்ரோஹைலிட் தவளை என்றும் மலபார் கருப்பு கூர்வாய்த் தவளை என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இது இந்தியாவின் கேரளா மற்றும் தமிழ்நாடு மாநிலங்களில் மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலையின் தென் பகுதியில் உள்ள ஈரமான பசுமையான காடுகளில் காணப்படுகிறது. மேலும் இது ஆனைமலை, மூணாறு, பழனி மலைகள், பெரியார் புலிகள் காப்பகம் மற்றும் களக்காடு முண்டந்துறை புலிகள் காப்பகம் ஆகிய பகுதிகளிலும் காணப்படுவதாகக் கள ஆய்வுகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.[3]
மெலனோபாட்ராசசு இண்டிகசு என்பது ஒரு அரிய தவளையாகும். இதனை 1997-ல் மீண்டும் களத்தில் கண்டுபிடித்தனர்.[4] இது இலை, பாறை மற்றும் ஈரமான பசுமையான வெப்பமண்டல காடுகளின் நிலப்பரப்புகளுக்கு மத்தியில் வாழ்கிறது.
கடந்த காலங்களில் மெலனோபாட்ராசினே என்ற துணைக்குடும்பத்தின் இரண்டு ஆப்பிரிக்கப் பேரினங்கள் கோலோபிராயேனி பார்பர் & லவ்வரிட்ஜ், 1928 மற்றும் பார்ஹோப்லோப்ரைனி பார்பர் & லவ்வரிட்ஜ், 1928 வைக்கப்பட்டன. ஆனால் இவை இப்போது கோப்லோபைரைனி துணைகுடும்பத்தில் வைக்கப்படுகின்றன.[5]
மெலனோபாட்ராசசு இண்டிகசு என்பது பரிணாம ரீதியாக வேறுபட்ட மற்றும் உலகளவில் அழிந்து வரும் சிற்றினமாகும்.[6] இது பன்னாடு இயற்கைப் பாதுகாப்புச் சங்கத்தினால் இது "அருகிய இனம்" என வகைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
