குறிப்புகள்[தொகு]

"Hendree’s Cure is a story of Madrasi life in the Caribbean and in particular Madrasi life in the Guyanese, Corentyne seacoast village of Whim. As a child growing up in Trinidad, I heard stories of Madrasi people: how they cried when a child was born and celebrated when someone died; how they were blood-drinking, Kali-Mai worshippers; how they were different from us Hindus. In Hendree’s Cure, the author manages to uncloak the story of these people, who were really Tamils and Dravidians from South India named after the port of Madras from which they boarded ships to the Caribbean, and to show that they were not so different from other Indo-Caribbean peoples. Their creolized Tamil and Telegu languages are different from the Bhojpuri Hindi that is used in Trinidad, but there is no doubt that the tappus (big drums) of the Madrasi people are of the same family as the tassa drums of Trinidad. Maybe the tappus helped my mother feel at home while she lived in Guyana." http://www.peepaltreepress.com/review_display.asp?rev_id=252 --Natkeeran 16:59, 23 ஆகஸ்ட் 2006 (UTC)
