பியரி வெர்னியர்

பியரி வெர்னியர் (Pierre Vernier)(19 ஆகஸ்ட் 1580 – 14 செப்டம்பர் 1637) என்பவர் ஒரு பிரெஞ்சு கணிதவியலாளர் மற்றும் கருவி கண்டுபிடிப்பாளர் ஆவார்.அவர் ஃபிரான்ஸ் நாட்டின் ஓர்னான் பகுதியில் பிறந்தார் (அந்த காலத்தில் இது ஸ்பெயின் ஹாப்ஸ்பர்க் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்டது).அளவீட்டு கருவிகளில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் வெர்னியர் அளவுகோல் என்பதைக் கண்டுபிடித்தவர் அவர் ஆவார்; அந்த அளவுகோலுக்கு அவரது பெயரே வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
வாழ்க்கை

பியரி வெர்னியர் 1580ஆம் ஆண்டு பிரான்சின் ஓர்னான் பகுதியில் பிறந்தார். அவருக்கு அறிவியல் கல்வியை அவரது தந்தை வழங்கினார். பின்னர், அவர் ஸ்பெயின் மன்னரின் சார்பில் ஓர்னான் கோட்டையின் தளபதியாகவும் நிர்வாகியாகவும் பணியாற்றினார். மேலும், பர்கண்டி மாவட்டத்தில் ஆலோசகராகவும் பொருளாதாரத் துறை தலைவராகவும் இருந்தார்.1631ஆம் ஆண்டு பிரஸ்சல்ஸ் நகரில் அவர் லா கன்ஸ்ட்ரக்ஷன், லுஸாஜ், எ லே ப்ரொப்ரியேதே டு குவாட்ராங் நுவோ டு மாதேமாத்திக் என்ற நூலை வெளியிட்டார். [1]இதில், பின்னர் அவரது பெயரால் அழைக்கப்படும் வெர்னியர் அளவுகோலை அவர் விளக்கினார்.ஒரு அரை டிகிரி அளவுகோலைக் கொண்ட கருவியில், 31 அரை டிகிரிகளைக் கொண்ட நகர்த்தக்கூடிய பகுதியை 30 சமமான பகுதிகளாகப் பிரித்து இணைப்பதை அவர் முன்மொழிந்தார். இதன் மூலம் கோண அளவீட்டில் நிமிட அளவுகளையும் துல்லியமாக கணிக்க முடிந்தது.இந்தக் கருத்தை முன்பு கிறிஸ்டோபர் கிளாவியஸ் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டாலும், அதை கருவியில் நிரந்தரமாக இணைக்கும் முறையை அவர் முன்மொழியவில்லை.[2]இன்றைக்கு வெர்னியர் என்ற பெயர் காலிப்பர், செக்ஸ்டன்ட், பாரோமீட்டர் போன்ற அளவீட்டு கருவிகளில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் சிறிய நகர்த்தக்கூடிய அளவுகோலை குறிக்கிறது. இந்தப் பெயரை ஜெரோம் லலாண்டே வழங்கினார். முன்பு நோனியஸ் என்ற பெயர் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டாலும், அது வேறு ஒரு கருவிக்கே பொருத்தமானது என்று பின்னர் விளக்கப்பட்டது.[3][4]
