Mr. Edgar Thurston was appointed by the Madras state for submitting census of the people of the region and has written in his report on 1909, thus the Naidu or Nayadu title was used by many of the Telugu communities , whom he has noted were the Balija, Bestha, Boyar, Ekari, Gavara, Golla, Kalingi, Kapu, Mutracha and Velama. Mr.Edgar Thurston was also noted that the title was equivalent to the Tamil Naicker or Naickan.
