பீனிக்ஸ்' (Phoenix) ஒரு புனித தீ பறவையாக வருணிக்கப்படுகின்றது. எகிப்திய, கிரேக்க, கிறிஸ்தவ புராண (தொன்மவியல்) கதைகளிலும், நவீன வரைகதைகளிலும் பீனக்ஸ் பறவை இடம்பிடிக்கின்றது. "தானே தீக்குளித்து பின்னர் அதன் சாம்பலில் இருந்து உயிர்த்தெழுவதாக" என்று புராண கதைகளில் பீனக்ஸ் பறவையின் தன்மையை தற்காலத்திலும் எடுத்தாள்வதை காண்கிறோம்.
பீனக்ஸ் பறவை தீயினால் உருவகிக்கப்பட்ட பறவையாக கருதி, செந் தீ நிறத்தில் பொதுவாக வரையப்படும். 'நெருப்பில் கருகி இறந்து தன் சாம்பலில் இருந்து மீண்டும் மீண்டும் எழும் பீனிக்ஸ் பறவையை போல' என்று கதையாசிரியர்கள் அல்லது கவிஞர்கள் தாங்கு சக்தியை, இறவாமையை அல்லது மீள்பிறப்பு தன்மையை வருணிக்க பயன்படும் கற்பனை பறவையாக "பீனிக்ஸ்" உள்ளது.
