தென்கொரியா என்றழைக்கப்படும் கொரியக்குடியரசு கிழக்கு ஆசியாவிலுள்ள ஒரு நாடாகும். இது கொரியத்தீபகற்பத்தின் தென்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ளது. தென்கொரியாவின் தலைநகரம் சியோல். கொரிய மொழி இங்குப் பேசப்படும் மொழியாகும். பௌத்த மதமும் கிறித்தவ மதமும் இங்குப் பின்பற்றப்படும் இரு முக்கிய மதங்களாகும்.

இங்கு பேசப்படும் தென்கொரியா மொழியை ஹங்குல் என்று அழைக்கின்றனர். ஹங்குல் மொழி கிங் செஜோங் என்ற அரசர் காலத்தில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. வரலாற்றிலே மிகச்சிறந்த அரசராக போற்றப்படுபவர் கிங் செஜோங்.
