குரூக் மக்கள் (Kurukh or Oraon or Dhangar)[7] திராவிடர்கள் ஆவார். இவர்கள் பேசும் குரூக் மொழி, திராவிட மொழிக் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தது.[8] குரூக் மக்கள் இந்தியாவின் ஜார்கண்ட், மேற்கு வங்காளம், ஒடிசா, சத்தீஸ்கர் போன்ற மாநிலங்களில் அதிகம் வாழ்கின்றனர். இம்மக்களை இந்திய அரசு பட்டியல் பழங்குடி வகுப்பில் சேர்த்துள்ளது. இம்மக்களை மகாராட்டிரா மாநிலத்தில் ஒரோன் அல்லது தங்கட் அல்லது தங்கர் மக்கள் என அழைக்கின்றனர்.[10][11]
பாரம்பரியமாக காடுகளை நம்பி வாழ்ந்த ஓரோன் மக்கள் தற்போது வேளாண்மைத் தொழில் செய்கின்றனர். மேலும் அசாம், மேற்கு வங்காளம் போன்ற மாநிலங்களில் குடிபெயர்ந்து தேயிலைத் தோட்டங்களில் பணிசெய்கின்றனர்.மேலும் வங்காள தேசம், பிஜி தீவுகளில் குடியேறி தேயிலைத் தோட்டங்களில் வேலை செய்கின்றனர்.[12][13]

குரூக் மக்கள் பின்பற்றும் பெரும்பான்மையான சமயங்கள் இந்து சமயம் 36%, கிறித்தவம் 30%, சர்னா சமயம் 32% மற்றும் பிற சமயங்களை 1% அளவில் பின்பற்றுகின்றனர்.
