Ravi, I see a shift in mindset about environment in the Western Countries, which will eventually find its way into developing nations. They are prosperous enough that they want to regulate their industries to account for the ecological costs of production. I think you have chosen the field of higher studies wisely. (I am sure there are countless other reasons why you chose this field.)

For long, industry and ecology have been at odds with each other, as industry contributed to the degradation and pollution of the ecosystem. Humans have realized that this can no longer go on, and we must adjust the coarse of our actions. How to do it? I suppose that is where your expertise would come in. I really look forward to reading some good Tamil essays regarding these issues in Tamil Wikipedia :-).

Thanks moyooresan. I am always with wiki though i may not edit often :)Just today I got access to the library computer. So i will contribute in my free time herafter. yeah! you are correct. I think I won't be able to use Tamil Type writer layout bcos of surathapage :-(. but I have no choice. Tamil Wikipedia Country Project

We are all aware that unlike any other Indian language and most other languages of the world Tamil does have a global spread. We must take advantage of that fact in developing information about Geographic regions, cultures, literature and other information. This will provide truly first hand, direct, tacit and local information that would be otherwise hard to amaze in Tamil. Also, original photographs can be added without license worries. Information that of special interest to Tamils about Tamil people, Tamil organizations, temples, and Tamil media and literature from those countries can be collected.

We can start with already committed members who live world wide. For instance, பயனர்:Kanags about Australia, பயனர்:Chandravathanaa about Germany, பயனர்:Ravidreams about Netherlands, பயனர்:Mayooranathan about UAE, பயனர்:Natkeeran about Canada, Eelanathan about Singapore etc. Most of us can also contribute to developing articles about India, Tamil Nadu, and Sri Lanka, the traditional home lands.

I am sure this has been in the mind of many Tamil Wikipedians, and I thought this would be of natural consequence of we all living world wide. But, I think we can accelerate this process, and develop fully if we actively purse this in a focused manner.

I propose this as a research project of sorts. This project is comparable to http://www.tamilnation.org/diaspora/, but the direct participation and open forum for contribution makes this project different, dynamic, and wider in scope. Further, the information will be available in Tamil, and will adhere to neutral point of view.

Ravi, you probably have noticed that I often note manly links here and there. Most of the links are what I consider “context links”. For instance, if the subject matter is environment, and if I come across a government agency or organization in that from TN, India, or SL. I usually mark that down. Because, these links would be useful for people who would be the audience of TWpedia. Of course, some links may need to purged. I just scan the sites.

I am aware that TWpedia is not a directory. But, at this moment there is no single effective Tamil directory. So, whenever I see relevant Tamil site, or a relevant site from TN or TE. I just note them down.

In scanning the web for sites from TN, almost all the TN government sites are in English, with exception of few which are bilingual. I thought TN government was supposed to function in Tamil, I might be wrong. Anyway, that was just a side note. --Natkeeran 19:41, 6 மே 2006 (UTC)[பதிலளி]

Normally, in bigger Wikipedia's, there is a special page for requests for bot flags: in the Dutch Wikipedia, this is nl:Wikipedia:Aanmelding botgebruikers. I could not find such a page in this wiki, so I placed my request at Wikipedia பேச்சு:தானியங்கிகள். Maybe this is not the right place for it. It is up to you people at ta-wikipedia to decide if you create a special page for requests or not.
Earlier, bot flags had to be requested at meta:, but now every local Bureaucrat can give bot-status with the page Special:Makebot.
What I propose, is that you choose a place for the vote, and then alert the other users of it, maybe with an announcement in the local Village Pump or something like that.

Usually, lot of useful bots are active in tamil wikipedia without obtaining permission or giving a mention. Ok, I'll check back later then. I always ask for permission to run my bot, because the bot is semi-automatic, and can really flood the recent changes in some smaller wikipedias.

Re: some bureaucrat features not working in tamil wikibooks site

Ravi, you asked for bureaucrat access on Tamil Wikibooks, but the features you mention (block pages and IPs, delete and revert pages, etc...) are functions for administrators (sysops).

Bureaucrats are enabled to re-name users, flag bots and appoint other administrators only.

Do you want me to change your access from bureaucrat to administrator? As far as I can see Tamil Wikibooks currently has no administrators. Feel free to add these. I'm mostly following (though rephrasing AFAP) the book that I'd quoted on the WP:MOS page. It's a very useful book. I think we're free to follow because the book's content gets value only by people following it everywhere. To that respect it is like a "man" page for operating systems, programming languages etc. Now, the problem is that it has a lot of information which has to be added into these manual pages. The current copy that I'm using is that of Santhosh who's away in Germany. Once he returns, I'll also try to get another copy so that the effort is parallelised.
