மலையாளிகள் எனப்படுவோர் தென் இந்தியாவின் கேரள மாநிலத்தைப் பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்டு மலையாள மொழி பேசும் மக்கள் ஆவர்.[13] இவர்கள் கேரளாவை பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்டவர்கள் என்றாலும், இந்தியாவின் பிற பகுதிகளிலும், சில வளைகுடா நாடுகளிலும் கணிசமான தொகையினராக வாழ்கின்றனர். இந்திய 2001 மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பின்படி 30,803,747 மக்கள் இந்த மொழியைப் பேசுகிறார்கள். மேலும் மலையாள மக்கள் கர்நாடகாவில் 701,673 (2.1%), மகாராஷ்டிராவில் 406,358 (1.2%), தமிழ்நாட்டில் 557,705 (1.7%) வசிக்கிறார்கள்.
