தோரா (ஆங்கில உச்சரிப்பு: /ˈtɔːrə/; எபிரேயம்: תּוֹרָה‎‎, "அறிவுறுத்தல்", "படிப்பிணை") என்பது யூத விவிலியத்தின் முதல் ஐந்து நூல்களைக் குறிக்கும். எபிரேயத்திலுள்ள முதல் ஐந்து நூல்களும் அவற்றின் முதல் சொற்றொடர்கள் மூலம் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன. அவையாவன: பெரசிட் ("ஆரம்பத்தில்", தொடக்க நூல்), சேமோட் ("பெயர்கள்", விடுதலைப் பயணம்), வயீக்ரா, ("அவர் அழைத்தார்", லேவியர்[1])), பமிட்பார், ("பாலைவனத்தில்", எண்ணிக்கை, மற்றும் டெவரிம், ("வார்த்தைகள்", இணைச் சட்டம்). யூத போதக இலக்கியத்தில் தோரா எனும் பதம் முதல் ஐந்து நூல்களைக் குறிக்கின்றது. தோராவானது எழுதப்பட்ட தோரா, பேசப்பட்ட தோரா என நோக்கப்படுகின்றது. பேசப்பட்ட தோரா பாரம்பரிய பொருள் விளக்கத்தையும், தலைமுறையிலிருந்து தலைமுறைக்கு வாய்வழி பேச்சாக கடத்தப்பட்டு, விரிவாக்கப்பட்டு எழுதப்பட்டவையாகும். இது தல்மூத்(תַּלְמוּד), மிட்ராஸ்(מדרש‎) என இப்போது நூல் வடிவில் காணப்படுகின்றது.[2]

யூத பாரம்பரியத்தின்படி, தோராவில் காணப்படும் எழுதப்பட்ட, வாய்வழி மொழியிலான எல்லா சட்டங்களும், கடவுளால் மோசேக்கு, சில சீனாய் மலையில் வைத்தும், சில பாலைவன கூடாரத்தில் வைத்தும் கொடுக்கப்பட்டன. இந்த படிப்பிணைகள் எல்லாம் பின்னர் தொகுக்கப்பட்டு மோசேயினால் எழுதப்பட்டன. அதுவே இன்றுள்ள தோரா. மத்தியகால யூத தியானவியலின்படி, உலக உருவாக்கத்திற்கு முன்பே தோரா உருவாக்கப்பட்டது என்றும், படைத்தலுக்கான நீல அச்சுப்படியாக அது பாவிக்கப்பட்டது என்றும் கூறுகின்றது.[3] பாபிலோனிய நாடுகடத்தல் காலத்தில் (கி.மு. 600) அந்நூல்கள் எழுதப்பட்டு, பாரசீக காலத்தில் (கி.மு. 400) நிறைவுற்றன என இன்றுள்ள பல வேதாகம ஆய்வாளர்கள் நம்புகின்றனர்.[4]
